Counsel Health’s new AI-native weight management program brings continuous, comprehensive primary care to consumers seeking obesity treatment.

Counsel Health’s new AI-native weight management program brings continuous, comprehensive primary care to consumers seeking obesity treatment.

The percentage of U.S. adults taking GLP-1 medications for weight loss has risen to 11% in 2026, up from 3% in 2024. As demand for these therapies grows, so does the need for care models that prioritize continuity and quality.

Continuous, always-accessible care plays an important role in supporting long-term adherence for patients pursuing a weight management program. Yet only 32% of GLP-1 users remain on therapy by the end of year one, dropping to 15% by year two. These outcomes underscore the need for ongoing support throughout the treatment journey.

A new model for weight management

Counsel’s weight management program is built around a simple idea: patients taking GLP-1s should have continuous access to high-quality medical care, not just a prescription.

Members can connect with Counsel’s board-certified physicians on demand, typically within minutes, for questions about side effects, dosing, treatment progress, or any other aspect of their health. Because obesity rarely exists in isolation, the same membership extends beyond weight management to include comprehensive primary care, covering urgent concerns and related chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol.

Counsel’s AI-native care model makes this level of access possible at a lower cost than traditional weight management programs, with both annual membership and pay-as-you-go options.

“GLP-1s are powerful medications, but a prescription alone is not a care model,” said Dr. Muthu Alagappan, Founder and CEO of Counsel Health. “Patients managing obesity benefit from ongoing access to physicians who understand their health journey and take a holistic approach to primary care. We built Counsel to democratize this experience for millions of people.”

How it works

Counsel’s weight management program is available to eligible members across the 44 states where Counsel’s consumer platform operates.

  • Get started in minutes. Members complete a digital intake and connect with a board-certified Counsel physician, who evaluates their health, determines eligibility, and develops a personalized treatment plan. When clinically appropriate, Counsel physicians can prescribe weight management medications, including Wegovy®, Zepbound®, and oral Foundayo™.
  • Get support whenever you need it. Throughout treatment, Counsel’s medical AI proactively checks in on progress and side effects. Members can ask the AI questions at any time or connect directly with a physician, typically within minutes, whenever they want physician support.
  • Get care for your whole health. The same Counsel membership covers far more than weight management. Members can use Counsel for urgent care, primary care, and other chronic and lifestyle conditions, allowing their physicians to manage obesity in the context of their overall health.

“Obesity is closely connected to many of the conditions we see every day, from diabetes and cardiovascular disease to sleep apnea and musculoskeletal pain,” said Dr. Rishi Khakhkhar, Chief Medical Officer at Counsel Health. “Effective weight management requires understanding the whole patient—not treating obesity as an isolated condition.”

Comprehensive care at a lower cost

Counsel’s AI-native model allows it to provide substantially more physician access while keeping care affordable. Members can choose between two flexible payment options:

  • Annual membership: Through Counsel Signature, members receive unlimited access to Counsel physicians for $300 per year, equivalent to $25 per month.
  • Pay as you go: Members can instead pay $29 per physician visit, with no ongoing membership required.

Counsel’s medical AI is always available at no cost, giving consumers continuous access to personalized health guidance and an easy path to physician care when needed.

Availability through LillyDirect

Access to Counsel’s new weight management program will also be available through the LillyDirect website, expanding access to the model for consumers seeking obesity treatment.

As one of LillyDirect’s providers, Counsel will provide eligible consumers who choose its program with physician-led evaluation, personalized treatment that may include a prescription for GLP-1 medications when clinically appropriate, and ongoing medical support.

The relationship reflects a shared focus on breaking down common barriers around cost, speed, convenience, and physician access. By bringing Counsel’s care model to LillyDirect customers, more patients can receive streamlined yet comprehensive obesity treatment, alongside holistic care that supports longer, healthier lives.
