After months of training, marathon runners know their pace, mileage and target finish time. Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and Fit:match, the AI body intelligence platform, are collaborating to help them see another dimension of their preparation: their body composition.
From October 29 through October 31, runners visiting the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon Expo Presented by New Balance at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center can visit the HSS x Fit:match booth for a 3D body-scanning and educational experience powered by Fit:match’s QuadraScan technology. The activation offers runners access to scan-derived body measurements and educational information at an Expo where nearly 60,000 runners will collect their bibs ahead of race day.
Using just four photos captured in under ten seconds, QuadraScan generates estimates of lean mass, fat mass and bone mineral content. Scan-derived measurements and estimates are delivered through the Fit:match mobile app, giving runners a starting point for learning more about their body composition in the context of training and recovery.
“Runners put months of dedication into preparing for the marathon, but pace and mileage tell only part of their story,” said Pam Geisel, Director of Performance & Wellness. “Through this collaboration, we’re giving runners a deeper understanding of the bodies carrying them across the finish line and giving them educational insights they can carry into their next training cycle.”
The experience combines HSS’s expertise in fitness, movement, and running education with Fit:match’s AI technology to make body composition insights accessible at a defining moment in each runner’s journey. With subsequent scans, runners can compare future scan-derived measurements to their Expo baseline to see how those measurements may change over time.
“Every runner arrives at the starting line with a different body and a different training story. We believe their experience should be just as personal,” said Haniff Brown, founder and CEO of Fit:match. “Together with HSS, we’re giving runners a body blueprint that goes beyond weight – it’s a baseline they can return to over time as they recover, allowing them to compare future scan-derived measurements and better understand how these measurements evolve.”
Google is supporting the activation as a technology collaborator, providing dedicated GPU infrastructure on site to power QuadraScan’s AI processing. The infrastructure is designed to keep results moving quickly as runners visit the booth throughout the three-day Expo.
