Los Angeles, CA, USA – September 4, 2026 – Some comebacks are timed for a moment. Kim Kay’s was written to survive one. The Belgian pop singer, born Kim Van Hee in Dendermonde in 1978, first became a household name across Europe in the late 1990s with the Eurodance hit “Lilali” and a run of French-language singles that carried her to the Belgian preselection for the 2002 Eurovision Song Contest. It was the kind of early success that could have defined an entire career. Instead, it turned out to be only the first chapter.
In 2004, at the height of that early fame, Kim Kay was diagnosed with cervical cancer. The years that followed brought devastating health challenges, and at one point she found herself confined to her bed, unable to perform, unable to tour, unable to do the thing that had defined her since childhood. For many artists, a chapter like that would have been the quiet end of a career. For Kim Kay, it became the beginning of one of the most personal bodies of work she has ever made.

Rather than let illness take her voice, she brought the studio to her. Confined to her bed, she turned her bedroom into a recording space, working without the flashing lights or crowds that once surrounded her, and built what would become her Life in Reverse EP one line at a time. Released in 2025 through Belgian Bed Records, the project includes the tracks “Ordinary Love,” “Wrong Reasons,” and “Od on U,” each one carrying the weight of what she had survived to make it.
The title Life in Reverse captures the shape of that journey honestly. Rather than moving forward in the way a career is supposed to, Kim Kay found herself working backward through pain, illness, and uncertainty to rediscover the same joy that had first put her in front of a microphone as a young singer in Belgium. That she chose to document it in song, rather than let it pass privately, is what makes the project resonate well beyond her longtime fans.
Today, Life in Reverse stands as proof that Kim Kay’s story was never just about a dance hit from decades ago. It is about a woman who, when illness tried to take her music away, brought her music to her instead, and turned one of the hardest chapters of her life into some of the most honest work she has ever released.
