WILMINGTON, NC, UNITED STATES, August 21, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Wilmington Central Rotary is proud to announce the launch of its annual community-wide initiative, Purses for the Unsheltered, with a special emphasis on the generous local partnership and drop-off headquarters provided by Strickland’s Home. The campaign invites community members to donate new or gently used purses filled with essential hygiene, comfort, and personal care items to support women facing crisis and homelessness in Southeastern North Carolina.
For over 80 years, Strickland’s Home has been a pillar of the Wilmington community—not only as a premier provider of custom window treatments, closets, and organization systems, but as a steadfast champion of local philanthropic causes. Serving once again as the primary community drop-off hub at 5422 Oleander Drive, Strickland’s Home exemplifies local corporate citizenship by opening its showroom doors to facilitate community donations.
Every year, the initiative responds to the harsh reality that women fleeing abuse, violence, or severe hardship often leave with only what they can carry. By collecting and stocking everyday essentials—ranging from hand sanitizer and feminine care products to socks, wet wipes, and toiletries—the project aims to restore dignity and offer a tangible sign of hope to recipients.
“When a woman in our community receives one of these filled purses, she carries proof that someone saw her and cared,” said Kyle Martin, President of Wilmington Central Rotary. “We are incredibly grateful for long-standing community partners like Strickland’s Home. Their dedication to hosting our drop-off site year after year makes drives like this possible and shows the true power of local business involvement.”
Collections for the 2026 campaign officially open on Wednesday, August 12, with completed purses scheduled for distribution to local shelters and advocacy organizations in mid-September. Community members can participate by selecting a purse, filling it with recommended items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, hair ties, deodorants, chapstick, and hand cream, or by donating items and cash directly.
In addition to Strickland’s Home at 5422 Oleander Dr., official drop-off locations include The Skyline Center Lobby at 929 N. Front St., First National Bank locations at 1724 Eastwood Dr. and 1508 Military Cutoff Rd. (Suite 100), and JBG Painting.
Building on past successes that saw hundreds of purses distributed to vital local partners such as the Domestic Violence Center, First Fruit Ministries, and Good Shepherd House, the initiative highlights how Wilmington’s business community unites to uplift vulnerable residents.
